Mountain road in Latin America

Nicaragua is the most accessible trip from northern Costa Rica: you leave from Liberia and in a long weekend you cover two colonial cities and a volcano.

The route

  • Day 1 — Liberia to León: a typical breakfast on the way, city tour and the cathedral domes.
  • Day 2 — León to Granada: Cerro Negro, the Rubén Darío museum and arrival in Granada.
  • Day 3 — Granada and return: a walk through the city before heading back.

For photography, León's white domes at midday and Granada's streets at the end of the day are the two windows I wouldn't miss.
